Jim Wilmer & Sons Timber Harvesting Ltd have a dedicated timber marketing department, purchasing standing timber from forest owners and marketing cut to length timber to the wood processing sector throughout Scotland and North England. We are a family owned, truly independent provider of timber harvesting solutions.
Jim’s career in the Forest Industry began over 40 years ago providing a timber harvesting contracting and small-scale timber marketing service to local woodland owners in Ayrshire and Dumfries and Galloway. In 2019, as part of our diversification strategy, Alan Christison joined the Company to develop standing sale and timber marketing opportunities to complement our main harvesting activities. Alan is a professional forester also with over 40 years Forest Industry experience, three quarters of which at senior positions within the timber processing and harvesting sector.
Where we purchase standing timber, we provide a combined service to woodland owners using our own harvesting and round timber haulage fleets, undertaking all aspects of the role of Forestry Works Manager in our management of harvesting operations. We provide an integrated service to optimise the dispatch of timber assortments from the worksite, taking advantage of market access and opportunities, and in so doing, maximising value recovery from each standing sale.
Standing timber and the resultant assortment of timber products are generally purchased and marketed in the UK on the basis of out-turn weight and we share a mutual interest with the woodland owner in ensuring that felled timber is dispatched promptly to market.
We offer the following services to woodland owners and managers:
- Small to large scale timber harvesting operations, including thinning and clearfell
- Difficult site capabilities, including traction assisted harvesting, high lead and skidding extraction and soft ground operations
- Detailed pre-sale crop measurement and valuation service
- Felling Permission Applications
- Planning and construction of forest road and timber harvesting infrastructure
- Optimisation of timber volume and value recovery
- Timber haulage using own fleet of timber wagons, half of which are CTI equipped wagon and drag configurations.
- We operate under Quality Assurance ISO Certification for Environmental Management (BS EN ISO 14001:2015), Health and Safety Management (BS ISO 45001:2018) and Quality Management (BS ISO 9001:2015) which provides reassurance that work will be carried out to a high standard.
